Rewarding opportunities for retirees interested in sharing their expertise and giving the gift of their time; and for young people interested in learning about medical careers and gaining work experience.
Our volunteers, over 500 strong, give of their time and expertise serving on our Boards and at Upper Chesapeake Medical Center and Harford Memorial hospitals. They share the vision that they can make a difference in the health of their community.
Our senior volunteers, men and women over the age of 18, and our junior volunteers, ages 15-17*, serve in over 30 different departments at our hospitals. They assist staff, patients and visitors in both patient care and office areas. Our volunteers serve in the Gift Shops, Resource Libraries, Surgical Waiting Areas and Information Desks at Upper Chesapeake Medical Center and Harford Memorial.
*Junior volunteers, who are at least 15 years of age or a have completed the 9th grade, can serve at least 1 four-hour shift every two weeks. Senior volunteers, adults of all ages, serve one shift a week. There are many benefits to volunteering, including:
- Opportunity to serve others;
- Free health screenings and vaccines;
- Discount on non-prescription over-the-counter drugs available in the hospital pharmacies;
- Meal ticket per shift;
- Educational Programs;
- Awards program;
- Scholarship program to students entering health careers.
Our volunteers are part of a team dedicated to creating a healing and compassionate environment for patients, visitors and guests. Opportunities are available to serve in patient and non-patient care areas at both hospitals.
