Havre de Grace, MD – Harford Hospice Regatta 2005 held its 6th annual regatta on June 3 and exceeded expectations by raising over $59,000 with all proceeds benefiting hospice programs for adults and children. Since 1999, Harford Hospice, a member of Upper Chesapeake/St. Joseph Home Care, has raised close to $300,000 for patients in Harford, Cecil and Baltimore counties and Baltimore City through its successful Regattas.
The 2005 Honorary Chair Shari LoPresti has served on the Regatta Committee since 2000 and continues to be a leader for the event. “Our deepest thanks to our sponsors, sailors, yacht club, and supporters who participated in this important event to assist hospice patients and their families throughout the region,” said Mrs. LoPresti. “More than 500 people enjoyed the race this year.”
The Harford Hospice Regatta is a premier event anticipated by both avid sailors and citizens alike who look forward to an evening on the shores of the Susquehanna in historic Havre de Grace, MD. This year’s event began with a sponsor’s reception at the Havre de Grace Maritime Museum and culminated with dinner donated by Outback Steakhouse. Dancing and entertainment followed.
The Regatta party featured a variety of unusual silent auction items, including original art and an exotic Jamaican vacation raffle. Hosted by the Havre de Grace Yacht Club, a fleet of 32 sailboats raced for the title in view of event goers.
All proceeds go directly to Harford Hospice to support their programs and services to patients in need of palliative care. Hospice cares for terminally ill adults and children, usually in the comfort of their own homes. Teams of health professionals and volunteers provide relief from physical, mental, social, and spiritual pain. Harford Hospice cares for residents of Harford, Cecil and Baltimore counties and Baltimore City.
Harford Hospice is a proud member of the National Hospice Alliance, a national network of sailing regattas dedicated to raising money and community awareness about hospice care.
