Bariatric Surgery Program Designated Center of Excellence

Upper Chesapeake Bariatric Surgery is a patient-focused and compassionate center for individuals considering weight loss surgery. It has been designated as a Center of Excellence by the American College of Surgeons. This designation is given to Centers that meet identified national standards of care and have excellent short and long-term results for patients.

Institutions providing weight loss surgery must have certain commitment, organization, leadership, human resources, and physical resources to provide optimal care. The professionals must have the necessary training, skills, and demonstrated experience. And, high quality surgical care requires documentation with reliable measurements of outcomes.

For all of these reasons, the American College of Surgeons will recognize and commend those facilities, which implement defined standards of care, document their outcomes, and participate in periodic reviews and verifications of their programs in Bariatric Surgery.

The period of accreditation is for three years, however, centers must maintain their accreditation status during this period by submitting an annual report documenting their continued compliance with the program's requirements and must also report its outcomes. For re-accreditation, the institution must repeat the program's application and site review process tri-annually.
